Safety Shout-out!! Mount Maunganui, Plant Manager Murray. Northcott wanted to talk about a safety initiative. Over the years, the manufacturing plant has tried different approaches when it comes to sampling very hot products (bitumen can be 180C). Personal protective equipment has always been the first-line of defense when taking samples, but weather conditions have always made it a challenge to take hot samples. Just imagine trying to do this in the pouring rain! Murray’s team have introduced a ‘simple’ sample box that gives added safety while taking samples. It’s as easy as opening the door, placing the sample container under the sample point and closing the door. Once you open the outlet valve the sample is poured - all inside the confines of the sample box. This gives protection from the elements and keep the person taking the sample safe from any splatter.  This simple solution has made a huge difference in keeping people safe - and that's what Road Science is all about! Good work Murray and the team.
