Pavement design

The Road Science team is available to help customers select the correct Road Science products for any application as well as conduct full pavement designs for a particular site. Headed by Phillip Muir, the Road Science the design process uses performance based laboratory tests on pavement materials that simulates in-field performance and accurately predicts life expectancy for each pavement material type. This exclusive Road Science methodology enables laboratory testing of non-conforming aggregates and materials to prove performance characteristics and gain approval.

This service of pavement design has been semi automated when generating the reports from the Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) tests to allow a quick turn around of many pavement design reports with treatment options. A recent example was for Gisborne City Council where 15 pavement design reports derived from the FWD testing was completed within two weeks.

The Road Science Testing is all about on site process improvement, helping you achieve a higher quality outcome for less money, less disruption for key stakeholders, and improved management of resources.

Through collaborative consulting Road Science also provides data to help pavement designers find the best treatment to prevent early failure and reduce 'whole of life costs.' Road Science’s current methodology has been accepted by NZTA and all major authorities.
