Data Capture Team

07 October 0025

Tyler Proudlock, our ace Data Collection Technician, just wrapped up some time with one of our three Hawkeye survey vehicles in the Tasman Region.

The Hawkeye survey vehicles use the latest in laser profiler technology to record road and pavement information accurately and continuously. They provide an efficient and safe alternative to traditional road survey inspections.

Equipped with our top-notch Hawkeye 1500 Laser Profiler, Tyler was able to delve into texture surveys and road geometry, capturing every detail with precision, as well as HD video footage to provide invaluable insights for our clients.

From Richmond to Motueka, and even the breathtaking Lake Rotoiti pictured below, Tyler covered it all.

Once Tyler's data from the Hawkeye unit is processed and polished, it's uploaded into Downer’s Seal Design App, developed to assist chip seal practitioners by storing and visualizing all the necessary data and business rules for designing chip seals in one place.

It includes texture, video, and geometry data provided by Hawkeye to help designers understand the road's current condition and stress levels based on its shape.

And the icing on the cake? Engineers can take virtual site tours via the virtual tour platform, Argonaut Roadrunner, all thanks to the videos captured by Tyler!

Curious about how our Hawkeye vehicles can help your road inspection teams?
