Road Science leading the way in sustainable practices within the bitumen industry! ♻️
As part of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, Ross Godkin, our National Manufacturing Manager, recently presented at the Carbon and Energy Professionals Conference about our emission reduction journey.
In the second pic, you can see our Bluff Bitumen Plant. Housing our latest project in pic three, we're replacing a fossil fuel process heater with a low-carbon electric alternative, significantly reducing our carbon footprint.👣
The key to this success? Switching to 100% Bitumen Emulsion for chip sealing!
Here's why it matters:
🌏Reduced energy demand: Hot Cutback Bitumen is used at high temperatures (180°C). Bitumen Emulsion functions perfectly at much lower temperatures (between ambient and 85°C).
Using Bitumen Emulsion eliminates the need for high peak demand heating, reducing carbon emissions and making the transition to low-carbon electric heating systems more achievable.
🌏This achievement goes beyond our company: With the industry moving to 100% bitumen emulsion, we're paving the way for a lower-carbon future in the NZ Bitumen industry.
This transition is not just a milestone for Road Science, but a significant step forward for sustainability across the entire sector.
We will highlight more insights and innovations from Ross’s presentation over the next few months, so stay tuned for more updates!
